Memorial & Tribute Options
Trees
Create a lasting tribute in one of Dickinson’s beautiful parks, scenic hiking trails, the golf course, or other cherished community spaces with a memorial tree. Choose from a variety of North Dakota-friendly species, or designate an existing tree as a special remembrance.
Benches
Create a lasting tribute with a memorial bench in one of Dickinson’s parks, scenic trails, or at the golf course. Thoughtfully placed by Dickinson Parks & Recreation to best serve the community, these benches provide a meaningful way to honor loved ones while enhancing public spaces.
Adopt-A-Park
In this partnership, with the help of volunteers from your organization, we can provide general maintenance and upkeep of parks and facilities within Dickinson. The idea is for residents to take ownership of their local park and improve the overall quality of the area. Participating groups help DPR keep an eye out for potential hazards, vandalism, cleanliness, and general park mistreatment. Learn More
Fees & Polices
Memorial Bench
Bench Types by Location
Playground Benches – $1,500
Veteran’s Memorial Park Benches – $3,000
Golf Benches – $4,000
Includes: Bench | Installation of Bench/Concrete Work | 10 Year Repair or Replacement Warranty
Playground benches:
- 6‑foot plastic‑coated expanded metal benches
- Color selected to match the playground
- Veterans Memorial Park benches:
- 6‑foot recycled plastic benches
- Golf course benches:
- 4‑foot granite benches
Bench Locations
- Memorial benches may be placed in parks, along trails, and at the golf course; however, availability varies by year.
- The exact location of the bench must be approved by Park District staff in consultation with the donor.
Maintenance and District Rights
- The Park District reserves the right to remove or relocate benches if doing so is determined to be in the best interest of the community.
- The Park District will repair or replace the bench once if damaged within the first 10 years.
- Additional repairs or replacements within that period, or any replacement after 10 years, will require a new donation at the current designated amount, or the bench and plaque will be removed.
Plaque Standards
- Memorial plaques will include one of the following phrases:
- “In Memory Of”
- “In Loving Memory Of”
- “In Honor Of”
- followed by the individual’s name.
Plaque specifications by location:

- Playgrounds: Approximately 3″ × 5″, attached to a recycled plastic backing
- Veterans Memorial Park: Typically 4″ × 10″, bronze, affixed to the bench
- Golf benches: Memorial text will be etched directly into the granite
Restrictions
- No materials may be placed around the bench at any time (e.g., photos, plastic flowers, rocks, ect).
Donor Rights
- Donors acquire no right, title, or ownership in the bench beyond what is described in this policy. Benches will remain available for public use consistent with Park District practices.
Memorial Tree
$1,000
Includes: Tree | Planting the tree | Three years of tree watering | Staking | Memorial plaque
Tree Selection & Location
- The location of the tree must be approved by Park District staff in consultation with the donor.
- Eligible planting areas: Locations include parks, trails, and the golf course, though availability varies by year.
- Tree variety selection: Varieties will be chosen from an approved Park District/US Forest Service list; availability depends on location and nursery stock.
Planting Schedule & Options
- Tree planting is scheduled by Park District staff, typically late May to early June.
- Option to choose an existing tree: Donors may select a tree planted within the previous year to avoid waiting for the next planting cycle.
Maintenance & Care
- Parks staff will water, stake, and prune trees as needed for the first 3 years.
- Removal rights: The Park District may remove or relocate trees if doing so benefits the community.
- Tree warranty: The Park District warranties memorial trees for 3 years and will replace them at its expense during that period.
Memorial Plaques
- Plaque wording: Plaques must use one of the following phrases: “In Memory Of,” “In Loving Memory Of,” or “In Honor Of,” followed by the individual’s name.
- Plaque specifications: Plaques measure approximately 4” x 10” and are made of metal with a stake.
